The unit of Computational Science at Kyoto University is a cross-department organization, which consists of teachers pertaining to computational and computer science at Kyoto University. The organization and operation of this unit was prescribed in the internal regulation at the “Executive Board” of the unit of Computational Science in September, 2010. This unit is established in the Center for the Promotion of Interdisciplinary Education and Research (C-PIER) at Kyoto University.

The Unit Director is elected among professors who are constituents of the executive board. The current Unit Director is supervising its management.
The Executive Board is a sub-organization which deliberates on significant matters in operation of education or research in this unit. It consists of “conferees,” which include the unit director, major members of the unit and other members.
The executive board establishes a specialist committee when necessary.
Members of this unit, are teachers engaged in research and education at Kyoto Univ. They are granted the membership at the executive board. The membership requirements are not very stringent so that it may not hinder their daily work in research and education. For example, “joint research” satisfies the requirements. One who satisfies the requirements can become a constituent with the permission from his or her supervisors.
Intramural and Extramural Collaborators
Besides the above Members, this unit may appoint intramural or extramural collaborators, who collaborate in the research and education at this unit.
